The Tohono O'odham Young Voices Podcast
Hello y'all! I'd like to begin a series providing digital resources were you can learn more about the O'odham perspective. The first resource I'd like to highlight is a podcast entitled the "Tohono O'odham Young Voices" podcast. You might not be aware of what a podcast is but it's basically a digital stream of audio you can listen to from various sources. There are many podcasts that cover different topic from entertainment to sports. What is unique about the Tohono O'odham Young Voices podcast is that it focuses on issues important to us O'odham. Additionally the podcast is created and hosted by a TO women named Tina Vavages-Andrew. So far there are 24 episodes to listen so far.
My favorite episode is Episode 20: Oidag Stories Part I which interviews Jacob Butler, Onk Akimel, who is involved with Native Seed Search, a non profit that is dedicated to storing Indigenous heirloom seeds. The organization is often run by non-Natives however Jacob Butler is currently the chair for the organization. Butler stresses the importance of agriculture to O'odham and the life lessons it brings.
